Carrying forward Amma & Abba’s legacy of kindness

Founded in loving memory of Hussanara Chowdhury and Syed Abdul Hekim, The Dolly Foundation supports clean water, education, orphan care and people facing cancer in Cambridge and beyond.

Our Story

On Tuesday 6 September 2022, our beloved mother, Hussanara Chowdhury, peacefully returned to her Creator. A loving wife, mother of eight, grandmother of twenty‑four and great‑grandmother of four, she guided our family with justice, mercy, empathy and fairness. With our late father, Syed Abdul Hekim, founder of Cambridge’s Taj Tandoori, she served the community for more than forty‑five years through countless acts of charity. Even after a stage IV lung cancer diagnosis, her generosity never wavered. Two days before her passing she instructed us to give charity to someone battling cancer.

Inspired by her compassion and the legacy of our parents, we founded The Dolly Foundation—named after the affectionate nickname given by her father. Our mission is to continue their work by funding clean water projects, supporting eye health and cancer sufferers, investing in education and orphan care, and giving back to the community at home and abroad.

What We Do

Clean Water

We build and maintain wells in rural areas like Bangladesh so that families can access safe, clean drinking water every day.

Sight & Health

Through eye‑screening camps and partnerships with specialist charities we help people protect and restore their vision and access cancer support.

Education & Orphans

We fund schools and support orphanages, ensuring children receive quality education, nutritious meals and the care they deserve.

Local Community

At home in Cambridge we back food hubs, night shelters, sports teams and school fetes—strengthening the communities that shaped us.

Our Impact

Featured Projects

Well in Bangladesh

We installed a deep well bringing safe drinking water to a village. The well now supports dozens of families who previously walked miles to collect water.

Eye Health Camp

In partnership with a local eye charity we organised a screening camp for 400 people, providing tests and treatments for those in need.

Community Support

We donated to Cambridge Food Hub in Cherry Hinton, helped Jimmy’s night shelter and sponsored a local football team and school fete.

Get Involved

You can make a difference in a variety of ways: donate, fundraise, volunteer or partner with us. Every bit of support keeps our work going and honours our parents’ legacy.

Donate

Make a one‑off or monthly gift to help us continue our programmes. UK donors can increase the impact by adding Gift Aid.

Fundraise

Run a sponsored event, set up a workplace collection or organise a cake sale—every pound raised goes directly to our projects.

Volunteer

Get hands‑on by helping at events, spreading the word on social media or contributing your skills to our campaigns.
